Prayer for a Newborn

This poem was written by Carolyne Gould, my mother, and the creator of Native History Magazine.

Prayer for a Newborn

May your eyes see the beauty of Mother Earth
May your ears hear the music of life and the sounds of laughter.
May your mouth always speak truth, presented with a kind heart.
May your heart always be full of joy
May your hands one day grasp the hands of your own grandchildren.
May your arms always welcome friends and family.
May your feet always walk a straight path.
And if your feet should ever stray from your path,
may Creator always lead you home.

Welcome to Native History Magazine

Native History Magazine is filled with pages that can help you learn about the history of Native American Indians --- which is also the history of North America. The focus of the magazine is geared toward educators, which includes parents. The majority of the articles are based on primary sources rather than secondary sources. For people new to those terms, primary sources are usually documents created at the time an event happened. Examples are letters, diaries, books, maps and some newspaper articles. Secondary sources are normally not first-hand knowledge or documentation; although these items do have a place in research. Classroom aids will be found in the "Lesson Plans" section.

In addition to the article-types described above, you will find pertinent contemporary articles. More information on the structure and content of this magazine can be found in the "Mission" section. Contributions are welcome.
